The Polytechnic Institute of Tomar has its origins in a 1973 decree-law. In 1982, the Higher School of Technology was installed and in 1986, the first bachelor’s degree courses were created, with classes being taught in different locations in the town. Finally, in 1992 it moved to the new campus over 10 hectares in size. On January 1, 1997, it obtained the status of a permanent independent establishment, housing three schools: the Tomar’s Superior School of Technology, the Tomar’s Superior School of Management and the Tomar’ Superior School of Technology (which operates in the city of Abrantes) .
