Tomar, Portugal
Tomar is a city founded in the medieval period, in 1160, by Gualdim Pais. Tomar Castle and Convent of Christ, headquarters of the religious and military orders of the Temple and Christ, was classified as a World Heritage Site and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1983. It is the political capital of the Middle Tagus Urban Community and the seat of a municipality with 11 parishes, and an area of approximately 352 km2. Currently, its population exceeds 40,000 inhabitants.

Polytechnic University
The Polytechnic Institute of Tomar has its origins in a 1973 decree-law. In 1982, the Higher School of Technology was installed and in 1986, the first bachelor’s degree courses were created, with classes being taught in different locations in the town. Finally, in 1992 it moved to the new campus over 10 hectares in size. On January 1, 1997, it obtained the status of a permanent independent establishment, housing three schools: the Tomar’s Superior School of Technology, the Tomar’s Superior School of Management and the Tomar’ Superior School of Technology (which operates in the city of Abrantes) .
